The Legend of Ninja Kamui (1969)
Synopsis
Kamui is a ninja from the Edo period who has decided to leave his clan. After doing so he is pursued relentlessly by the members of his former clan; who consider him to be a traitor and therefore wish to kill him. Kamui then wanders around Japan to escape from them by using his intelligence and great abilities to survive. In the course of the series Kamui begins to suffer from paranoia because of his status as a persecuted man. Kamui then started to believe that everybody wished to murder him and became distrusting of everyone he came across.

Kamui hears of the undefeated ninja Mitsu of Nabari, who breaks Kamui's Kiri Slash, prompting him to seek the secret behind Mitsu's invincibility.

Kamui faces an assassin with the mind-reading technique "Tashin Tsū," forcing him to use a life-risking strategy to escape.
Common Wind
Assassin Heima suspects Kamui is the "werewolf" terrorizing a village but is trapped, while the werewolf saves his son, Taichi.
The Ninth
Kamui joins the "Tozura Group" of woodcutters, protecting a mistreated girl, Tone, while uncovering a plot against him and growing closer to her.
Dark Phantom
After betrayal, Kamui becomes paranoid, killing strangers he believes are assassins as a dark force takes control of him.
Cicada Shell
Blinded in battle, Kamui is cared for by hunter Senkichi, who later betrays him for money when an assassin seeks information about Kamui.
The Servant
Kamui escapes to a farming village, working as a laborer and finding peace, but his tranquil life is short-lived.
Mad Horse
Assassin Konoma, unsure if Kamui is truly blind, challenges him but is saved by Kamui, and ultimately chooses to become a rogue ninja like him.
Celestial Being
After surviving a fall, the "Tengu" from Tanba resumes chasing Kamui and Konoma, but the mad horse reappears.
Body Switch
Kamui's paranoia leads to killings by an imposter using the "Ushimino" technique, who takes his appearance, while the real Kamui remains elsewhere.
Old Ninja
Tengu's subordinates consider becoming rogue ninjas, prompting O-Atama to use Hanzo to gain their trust.
